our approach to training

A 2017 meta-analysis of nearly 500 implicit bias studies found that attempts to correct underlying biases rarely result in long-term behavioral changes. While leaders who are sent to implicit bias training sessions leave with a heightened understanding that biases exist, they often lack the tools to take sustained corrective action. Absent of any concrete action items, leaders revert to the status quo. At TAPESTRY, we ensure that people leave our trainings not only with new knowledge but also with the tools, language and experience so they can manage situations as they arise back at work.

our pedagogical Approach

We design our trainings and workshops using an expeditionary learning framework. Expeditionary learning is learning by doing that draws together personal experience and intellectual growth to promote self-discovery and the construction of knowledge. A facilitator/teacher guides learners along this journey with care, compassion, and respect for their diverse learning styles, backgrounds, and needs. Addressing individual differences profoundly increases the potential for learning and creativity of each student.

Expeditionary learning often involves elements of challenge, adventure, and leadership, and can take place in a variety of settings including wilderness, classrooms, and even virtual spaces (the internet). Participants in expeditionary education can be directly involved in the expedition, or may be linked to expeditions undertaken by others.

We believe expeditionary learning harnesses the natural passion to learn and is a powerful method for developing the curiosity, skills, knowledge and courage needed to imagine a better world and work toward realizing it.

    • Belonging is an important and often overlooked aspect of the work culture and through our lived experience we fully understand how essential it is to feel safe and seen. To feel a sense of belonging allows us to be present, to open up and become more self-aware. We will work with you, in all the ups and downs and inevitable blunders, to experience transformational and sustainable change.
